At least one thousand people joined a route tracking event at Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Universitas Gadjah Mada on Saturday (17/9). It marked the move from the campus in Sekip area to Bulaksumur area. It involved alumni from 40 classes that aimed to raise the brotherhood between alumni as well as reflect on the campus move from Sekip to Bulaksumur.
The event started at the Sekip campus where the people marched together, accompanied by horse troops and carts. They stopped by at Balairung where they were welcomed by Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., Ph.D. Later, the alumni had luncheon together. Among those attending were Acting Governor of Bengkulu Province, Drh. Rohidin Mersyah.
Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Dr. drh. Siti Isrina Oktavia Salasia, said this event was part of series of events to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Faculty. Participants of the event were alumni from classes of 1969 – 2010. “There are around 1,000 alumni attending,” she said.
According to Isrina, the choice of the former campus in Sekip was to remember the study times of those alumni of the earlier periods. The participants wearing blue shirts had the chance to meet with their senior lecturers. “What has been achieved by alumni of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is a big contribution from our predecessors and lecturers,” Isrina told the alumni.
Isrina hoped the alumni to continue the ties with the Faculty in advancing it and the profession of veterinarians in Indonesia. “I would like to thank you and appreciate all the alumni that have come here in this building, which has been made a heritage,” she said.
Furthermore, Isrina asked the alumni to always make contributions to the state through their profession that they occupy in the society. “We have to work hand in hand in advancing the profession that we love,” she said.
