Five students of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) will participate in the 27th European Student Conference. The activity was held in Berlin, Germany, from October 28-November 1, 2016.
It was Isanawidya Hikmah Paramita, Hindun Wildani Wahab, Andika Ilham Rahmatullah, Adi Ariffianto, and Guntara Khuzairi who had an opportunity to join the biomedical conference along with 445 participants from various universities in the world. They were selected to present their research related to innovation in antibiotic resistance.
“There are at least 500 active and passive participants from various countries in Asia, Africa, America, and Europe participating in the conference which was organized by Universitätmedizin Berlin,” said Isanawidya Hikmah Paramita, when contacted on Wednesday (9/11).
At the conference, she submitted a paper entitled Prevalence of Postpartum Sexual Dysfunction and Its Association with Mode of Delivery: A Cross Sectional Study. The work was awarded as the Winner of the category of gynecology themed research. While the four other students have not had the opportunity to win at this conference.
“I gave a presentation on the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in women after childbirth and its relationship with the mode of delivery,” she explained.
She described that her research was triggered by the phenomenon of the increasing number of cesarean surgery without indication. It has an impact on the effectiveness of health financing.
“Not a few women who actually can give birth normally, but choose to give birth via cesarean section because it is considered more convenient with minimum side effects,” she said.
In fact, cesarean section have more side effects than normal one. In addition, the results showed that the cesarean could not prevent the occurrence of female sexual dysfunction.
“This study is expected to educate patients related to the selection mode of delivery and reduce the number of caesarean operations that are not needed,” she concluded.
