The red and white flag as well as the flag carrying UGM logo were flying in the skies of Bulaksumur on Monday (1/8). These were carried by parachutists who skydived above 8,745 new students of UGM as well as hundreds of invitees who attended the ceremony of new students induction on the square of Grha Sabha Pramana UGM.
The parachuting and ultra-light plane flying on the area were held by the student regiment unit of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UKM SATMENWA UGM) and alumni association of the unit (KAMENWAGAMA) to introduce themselves to new students.
“This is a real form of the student unit in supporting the mission of UGM to encourage new students to join an organisation,” said Rizki Adi Pamungkas, student commander.
The parachuting involved 34 sky-divers, comprising 18 people from Special Forces (Kopassus), 6 members of the Army and Paskhas, and 10 athletes from Federasi Aero Sport Indonesia (FASI) Yogyakarta, and alumni of Resimen Mahasiswa Mahakarta. There were also 3 women from Kopassus participating.
The sky-dive was done from a CN295 plane in 3 batches. They were all wildly welcomed by the students when they touched the ground from a height of 6000 feet. Budi Setyono, chairman of KAMENWAGAMA supported the effort to regenerate the student unit members.
“UGM Student Regiment Unit is a leadership lab for future leaders,” said Budi.
