UGM’s Daycare Tunggadewi celebrated the 30th anniversary on Friday (8/1). Event that had The Beauty of My Country and My Culture theme presented children and teacher art show, tumpeng (rice-cone) cutting, and awarding ceremony for outstanding employees and teachers. Also present at the event was UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D.
In her speech, the Rector hoped that later Tunggadewi Daycare that is run by UGM women’s unit (DWP) can be a daycare that fosters future generations. Dwikorita further expressed her gratitude to educators who have devoted themselves to take care of the children in the Daycare.
“We must be grateful that in this commercial era, there is still a group of people who want to devote themselves hoping nothing in return. Hopefully, we can raise our children well for the future,” she hoped.
Chief Manager of Tunggadewi Daycare UGM, Rita Didi Achyari, said that entering the age of 30 she will continue to improve the quality of service. Various attempts were made such as improving the quality and competence of teachers as well as improvements and additions to the facilities.
“In the future we hope to provide better service and provide comfort not only for children but also the parents who entrust their children to be taken care of here,” she explained.
Meanwhile, the head of Tunggadewi Daycare UGM, Mitha Sari Indrajaya, said that since being established on January 7, 1968 under the management of DWP UGM, they have been caring for about 3,500 children. In fact, their alumni had become doctors, engineers, and others.
“Currently, there are 40 babies and toddlers aged from 2 months to 5 years old that are divided into five classes in this place. We have 13 teachers and 4 employees,” she explained.
In the early days, Tunggadewi Daycare UGM was located at Blok H Bulaksumur UGM. Subsequently, around 2000, it was relocated to Sekip Blok M-5 Bulaksumur UGM. Tunggadewi is present as a form of attention for UGM employees who have difficulty to take care of their children when they left for work. Along with the development of Tunggdewi, currently the Daycare is also open for public.
