Universitas Gadjah Mada gives much attention to the drought problems that are currently affecting the country, particularly that hits Gunung Kidul regency. UGM did a social service by delivering clean water to the regency through the university anniversary committee led by Prof. Dr. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., on Sunday (25/10).
Field coordinator, Dr. Adhy Kurniawan, said the project was a cooperation between Regional Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Gunung Kidul, Taruna Siaga Bencana (TAGANA) youth organisation, BAZNAS organisation, River Ecology Club (REC), and BNI bank. The water to be delivered reaches as many as 100 tanks with 60 tanks already distributed to some areas in the regency.
“In the mid-term scope, there will be waterpumps aid supported by BAZNAS organisation,” Adhy said on Wednesday (28/10).
Ali Agus said the event was done in the villages of Pengkol, Nglipar. He added the benefit of the water aid to that regency that has almost 50% of cattle of the whole province.
“The water aid in Gunung Kidul that acts to rescue human lives is parallel to the rescue of the cows in that area,” he said, adding that nationally, cows are one of agro commodities that are given special attention.
The involvement of REC, river and water observer group from UGM Vocational School, also serves as a learning forum for them to raise empathy over the difficulties affecting the people of Gunung Kidul.
