To celebrate the 30th anniversary of sister-city cooperation between Jogja-Kyoto, the Jogja-Japan Week is held in Grha Sabha Pramana UGM from 3-6 September 2015.
“Jogja-Japan Week is a biennial event from the people of Yogyakarta to appreciate the cooperation,” said Fitriani Kuroda, event chairman, in Grha Sabha Pramana on Thursday (3/9) during the opening ceremony. The JJW hosts parade, workshops, film screenings and other games.
According to Fitriani, it is expected that the numerous Japanese forms of culture performed at this event would enrich the knowledge of Jogja people, how those cultures stand strong amidst the technology advances in Japan.
“This should be a made a reflection for the people of Yogyakarta whether they can sustain their own cultures,” she said.
Japanese Embassy’s Director for Information and Culture, Takeyama Kenichi, said the 30th anniversary of the sister-city cooperation through the hosting of Jogja Japan Week showed the long history between Indonesia and Japan, particularly Kyoto and Jogja. He appreciated the residents of Jogja who have flocked to the arena to enjoy the event.
“These have strengthened my belief that the relations between the people from the two countries will continue to flourish that increases the spirit to work better and harder,” said Takeyama Kenichi representing the Japanese Ambassador.
UGM Vice-Rector for Cooperation and Alumni, Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., said amidst the modernity in Japan, they still maintain their culture as a pillar of power.
“In the power of culture, culture becomes the breath of economy and development, such as what happened in Jogja,” he said.
