Students of Universitas Gadjah Mada have, again, participated in the world forum. It’s Dyah Savitri Pritadrajati (Economics) and Laisa’ Pamidhi Widita (International Relations) joining the Student World Forum 2015 from 19-24 April 2015 at University of Strasbourg, France, and University of Freiburg, Germany.
Student World Forum is a student conference who are members of the Academic Consortium 21 for the 21st Century (AC21), coming from 11 states to encourage exchange of ideas on global issues, build international partnership and strengthen the AC21 network. The Forum is joined by 38 students from South Africa, the U.S., Australia, China, Indonesia, Germany, Japan, Laos, France, New Zealand, and Thailand.
“Universitas Gadjah Mada is the only Indonesian university to be involved in this consortium,” said Dyah on Monday (12/6) at UGM’s Faculty of Economics and Business.
The theme for the sixth Student World Forum is The European Experience in Local and Regional Democracy. Participants are involved in plenary sessions and workshop, learning sustainable urban development in Freiburg. They also visit institutions in Strasbourg, including the European Parliament and Council of Europe. Finally, they present in groups the results of the workshop on cross-border project management and cross-border clusters and business cooperation.
“The spirit of international cooperation needs to be applied in Indonesia, especially in the regions, because the application is still minimal there,” she said.
Laisa’ added that the Student World Forum 2015 had given in-depth knowledge on the importance of cross-border cooperation by local and regional authorities in Europe for democracy enactment that can be made a lesson for other continents. It is also positive for participants as it inspires them to increase international beneficial cooperation.
