At the courtyard of Balairung, Universitas Gadjah Mada celebrates the 69th Indonesian Independence Day, on Sunday, 17 August 2014, led by Rector, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc.
“Today we celebrate the anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day that is the milestone for the realisation of the aspirations of Indonesia to be free, sovereign, just, and prospeous. We have enjoyed independence for 69 years. Now it’s time to carry on our lives in the frame of the Unity in Diversity spirit based on Pancasila,” said the Rector in his opening remarks of the celebration.
“Pluralistic but still united, united amidst differences based on Pancasila values. Since the establishment, UGM was designed to instill diversity. Thus, it is always instilled to the UGM new students that they are not Javanese, Papuan, or Batak, but Indonesian children. Based on this spirit, we always make sustainable improvements and innovations to make Indonesian children become one Indonesia,” he concluded.
