UGM opens sit-in opportunities for high school students. They can attend lectures in a major which interests them. Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. dr. Iwan Dwiprahasto, M.Med.Sc., explained that UGM has started the sit-in programme since 2005 for some majors.
“At first there were only some faculties opening the sit-in programme, including Faculty of Medicine that opened the chance for high school students to attend lectures or practicum in the lab,” he said on Friday (7/2) to reporters in Fortakgama Room of UGM.
In order to educate students to have adequate knowledge to decide where to pursue higher learning, said Iwan, UGM extended the opportunities for people to sit in. “We plan to open the sit-in programme in April,” he said.
All high school students, particularly from grade X and XI, may sit in the class of their interest. “Students may attend lectures up to three times, even three days outside the UGM exam schedules,” he said.
He added the programme is expected to be able to educate people in making the choice of study programme. This is because currently many have chosen the majors that they do not really know about due to the lack of information. “We hope students will not make the wrong choice when selecting majors so they can make the best out of lectures and enjoy them,” he concluded.
