The Agricultural Research and Training Station (KP4) UGM is trying to make a breakthrough in food, namely Gama Food, through 5A programme, which are Agro-Production, Agro-Business, Agro-Technology, Agro-Industry, Agro-Tourism for selected excellent commodities from upstream to downstream areas wholly and in integrated manner.
Head of KP4 UGM, Dr. Cahyono Agus, said the Gama Food development was facilitated in the grant project of field laboratory reinforcement in the station and Kebun Mangunan for Gama Pertanian Tropika Terpadu (Gama Integrated Tropics Agriculture), funded under BOPTN 2013. In his opinion, the innovation has to be able to produce qualified product, high amount and being sustainable and efficient.
Cahyono hoped that the laboratory reinforcement can produce excellent research which is wholly and integrated by synergising all UGM research resources. “We hope that this would increase research atmosphere for all researchers to have ability, willingness, opportunity and authority to synergise with a solid team,” said Cahyono in a release sent out Thursday (6/3).
Cahyono said that KP4 UGM was also developing excellent centre in the form of integrated agriculture. It refers to the concept of sustainable development through management of natural resource, water, biodiversity and environment. This programme has main characteristics and a realisation of education programme for sustainable development that has to pay attention to economic value increase, environment conservation, social justice, synergically and optimally. “The balance between production and consumption is a point that has to be developed, so the land can produce food, feed, place, fertiliser, herbs and tourism,” he described.
Cahyono added that KP4 has provided 20 joint researches each worth Rp100 hundred million to reinforce the laboratory in KP4 and Kebun Mangunan. More information can be accessed at http://www.lppm.ugm.ac.id/ or http://www.kp4.ugm.ac.id
