The Chinese New Year in 2013 is celebrated not only by Chinese descendants. The association of Mandarin Language Study Programme of the UGM Vocational School has also joined in the new year festivities by organising events on Thursday (14/2).
They organised Chinese cultural events by presenting barongsai and liong, arts performances and culinary presentation.
Director of Vocational School UGM, Ir. Hotma Prawoto Sulistiyadi, M.T., in the opening speech said that the event was expected to increase the insight of Indonesians related to Chinese culture and strengthen the ties between both sides. “China is a country with a tradition that keeps developing and existing until today. This showed that we should appreciate their culture,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chair of the Mandarin Study Programme, Sulsityawati, S.S., M.Hum., said the event is a form of appreciation of Chinese culture in the student’s learning process. In future, students are able to understand and appreciate the noble values of Chinese culture that can be implemented in their lives and learning, which makes human beings superior and dignified.
