YOGYAKARTA – Two students of UGM, Faizal Arief Kamil of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and Muhammad Reza of Faculty of Law, were stated as the best orator in the ‘I am President’ speech contest. Both will advance to national competition representing Yogyakarta. Another winner is Muhammad Aulia, a high school student from Semarang. "We chose three winners of 12 participants in the final," Program Director, Dr. Muhammad Asmi, said to reporters after the announcement of ‘I am President’ winners at Auditorium of Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM, Wednesday afternoon (12/9).
Asmi said most of forty participants are students. This is different from other big cities, the applicants are quite varied, ranging from bureaucrats, businessmen, to professionals. However, the competition is pretty tight in Yogyakarta because in general the participants are activists. "On average they are president and secretary general of Students Executive Body," he added.
Puji Karyanto, one member of the jury, admitted some of the participants are very good in speech, but less in the content. "Some are also good in the delivery and content of speech, but not accompanied by a clear solution," he said.
The lecturer of Airlangga University added that many issues were discussed in the speech, including the issue of foreign investment in the contract of work, the concept of education in the future, as well as an improvement of globally competitive human resources. "They also mentioned the problem of corruption, such as fight against corruption," he said
It is planned that each of the three winners from 11 major cities will follow training in Jakarta to appear in a reality show program on national television station. "Everything will be refined there in order that they appear as good presenters," he concluded.
