YOGYAKARTA- At Faculty of Engineering, Friday (24/8), Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc, officially released Bimasakti UGM team who will attend The 10th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan 2012. On the occasion, the Rector was accompanied by Dean of the Faculty, Ir.Tumiran, M.Eng., Ph.D., Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Ir. M. Waziz Wildan, M.Sc, Ph.D, as well as other representatives.
In the event, Rector encouraged the team to achieve optimal results for the sake of Indonesia. The Rector also hoped that the innovations generated through personal intelligence can create the intelligence of the nation.
"UGM is already an international institution. Hopefully, intellectual work and innovation that have been developed by students could make Indonesia more prosperous, advanced and dignified," Pratikno said.
Similarly, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Tumiran, M.Eng., Ph.D, hoped that Bimasakti team can add to the accomplishments already achieved by other engineering students in the international arena.
"In the future the children of Indonesia will further excel and bring pride to UGM and the Indonesian nation," Tumiran said.
Meanwhile, Leader of Bimasakti UGM team, Akmal Irfan Majid, explained later on they will participate in a race using the car number "67" (means the 67th Anniversary of Indonesia). Bimasakti Team passed the selection as one of 76 other contestants from various countries such as Japan, China, Thailand, India, Egypt and Indonesia. They will compete in the competition which will be held from September 3 to 7 in Ecopa, Aino-city, Japan.
"Teams that qualify for the top 76 will follow several race categories, including Static and Dynamic Events," Majid explained.
According to Majid, the team had gone a long way for this competition. They start from the concept, designing, regulatory adjustments, manufacturing process, quality control as well as testing and test drive. The participation of Bimasakti UGM team in 2011 becomes team’s provision in conducting research and preparation related to Student Formula SAE Japan this year.
"This is the second year of the UGM participation in this competition," he explained.
The Bimasakti UGM team consists of 18 students with lecturers Dr. Fauzun, Dr. M.Agung Bramantyo and Dr. Budi Dharma. Bimasakti is taken from the name of a puppet character, BIMA, a tough, strong and brave figure that inspires the team while promoting Javanese cultural philosophy.
