YOGYAKARTA – Prof. Dr. Soedomo Oral and Dental Hospital (RSGM), Faculty of Dentistry UGM, opens evening services at 06.00 – 08.00 pm and Emergency Services for 24 hours starting from August 1, 2012. This was announced by Director of RSGM, Dr. drg. H. Ahmad Syaify, Sp. Perio (K) when met in his office on Thursday (26/7). The 24-hour Dental Services is a new initiative special medical dental and oral service of the Hospital. "The 24-hour dental service is a new service innovation," he said.
Previously, RSGM serves patients from 08.00 – 18.00 hours. With the increasing number of patients and to mark the month of Ramadan this year, a special public service is added by two hours (from 08:00 to 20:00 hours). "The new service aims to mark Ramadan and also to increase service hours," he said.
He mentioned that the visits of oral and dental patients during Ramadan increases. The number of patients on weekdays is 200 people on average, increasing to 250-300 people during Ramadan. "There is an increase in terms of number of patients during this Ramadan," he said. But there is some decline specifically for patients for oral surgery, such as tooth extraction, tooth implant and so on. Meanwhile, the number of patients who have tartar cleaning and patching rise sharply up to 300 people a day. "The number of oral surgery patients drop significantly," he said.
The decrease in the number of patients for oral surgery, according to Syaify, is caused by two possibilities. Firstly, Muslims patients doubted whether having dental treatment will break the fast or not. Secondly, it is medical consideration. After tooth extraction or surgery, the patients should take antibiotics and painkillers.
