Universitas Gadjah Mada again holds research week and innovation expo. The event will take place over five days, 17-21 July 2012, at Grha Sabha Pramana (GSP) UGM. According to the plan, the activity entitled "UGM’s Contribution to Solve Nation’s Problems and Nation’s Potential Development" will be opened by UGM Rector, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M.Soc.Sc. The opening will also be marked by the launching of Data Synthesis of Disadvantaged Areas Development by the minister of Disadvantaged Areas Development, Helmy Faishal Zaini.
Rector said that as a college, UGM wants to be a reference for the nation’s progress. Research week is conducted in an attempt to convey and share science and technology which have been developed by UGM to the wider community and industry. "Through the research week this time, we are intending to announce a variety of good achievements produced by UGM in the field of research and community service to the community and partners," Pratikno said to reporters on Monday (16/7) at the Leadership Meeting Room. On the occasion, the Rector was accompanied by Vice Rector for Research and Community Service, Prof. Dr. Suratman, M.Sc., Research Week Committee Chairman, Dr. drh Wisnu Nurcahyo.
Pratikno added this activity will display research products from 18 Faculties, 27 Study Centers, 28 SMEs, as well as work units in UGM.
Prof. Dr. Suratman, M.Sc., added that Research Week not only serves as a forum for work units in UGM to promote research results. He hoped that the event can provide tangible benefits for society. "We not only show, but results should be enjoyed by people. Implementation of science and technology can be ejoyed by community," he hoped.
Meanwhile, Committee Chairman for Research Week 2012, Dr. drh. Wisnu Nurcahyo said that the implementation of the event is intended as UGM’s means in conveying the results of research, education, and dedication to the community, industry, government, and international parties. "UGM has a lot of researches produced by 2300 researchers in 18 Faculties, 27 study centers and vocational college, there are 130 booths. This activity is held as UGM’s accountability effort to convey the results of research and dedication that has been done the public," he explained.
Wisnu said, the research week this time is also expected to give refreshment of ideas and innovation, development of innovative human resources for business and industry.
Further Wisnu explained that the implementation of the 6th Research Week and Innovation Expo is different from the previous years. This activity will feature a series of thematic discussions consisting of scientific discussion and policy implementation. "Topics of discussion include energy and transportation, food, health, culture and democracy, the environment and biodiversity, as well as disaster," he added.
There are also dialogue with the industry (17/7), marketing training for UGMKM (18/7), and training of MSME’s products diversification (19/7) at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM.
