For two days, 9-10 July 2012, Universitas Gadjah Mada in collaboration with Yale University will host an international conference entitled "The 5th International Indonesia Forum" (The 5th IIF). As many as 96 speakers from 10 countries including the United States, the Netherlands, Australia and other countries in Asia expressed their willingness to be present to enliven the 5th IIF at UGM.
According to UGM Executive Secretary, Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, M.A., the international conference is under the coordination of Office of International Affairs UGM. In particular, the committee carries the theme Between the Mountain and the Sea: Positioning Indonesia ", with speakers coming from various prestigious universities in the world." There are from Harvard University and Cornell University, also from Berkeley University, Michigan State University, Universiy of Sydney, and of course both organizing universities, UGM and Yale University," he said in Stana Parahita UGM Main Office, Tuesday (3/7).
Maya Septriana Hernowo from the organizing committee expected The 5th IIF to be a platform for academicians and researchers all over the world to view the developments taking place in Indonesia in recent years. She really hoped that researchers and academicians would profoundly observe the development of Indonesia in various contexts related to changes in various fields. "The 5th IIF can certainly provide opportunities for students, researchers, and academicians to expand the network/connection and enhance educational cooperation at international level and increase interest in Indonesian studies in the world," she said.
She said the international multidisciplinary conference presents 24 panels in 24 subthemes. Some of the topics are the Sustainable Development Challenges of Media, Political Economy in Regional Perspective, Differentiation of Culture and Identity, and Issues of Children and Youth in Society.
Organizing committee in the 5th IIF consists of Andrew M. Carruthers, Frank Dhont (Yale University), Heddy Shri Ahimsa, Djoko Moerdiyanto, Rio Rini Dyah M., Maya Septriana Hernowo (UGM), and Rommel A. Curamming from the University of Brunei Darussalam. As a closing program, the conference participants will be invited to enjoy the beauty of Borobudur and Yogyakarta Palace.
