A total of eight students from Aoyama Gakuin University (Japan) followed a field research in UGM. The field research program is a joint program between Aoyama Gakuin University in the Program on Humanitarian Action (POHA) and one of the clusters under the UGM Institute of International Studies (IIS). During the field research, the Japanese students are accompanied by their supervisor, Prof. Stefano Tsukamoto.
According to the Director of Institute of International Studies, Ahmad Hanafi Rais, SIP, MPP, this program will be focused on research in the post-disaster locations in Yogyakarta from 27 February to 4 March 2012.
"The Japanese students will learn a lot in some locations in which the disaster had occurred in Bantul and Sleman," said Hanafi, Monday (27/2).
Hanafi explained that the event is attended by Aoyama Gakuin University students from several majors, such as International Relations, Economics and Literature. The activity is a follow-up of video conference between the two sides that have been done some time ago.
"This program is expected to further sharpen the international peace agenda in Indonesia’s foreign policy," said the lecturer of International Relations Department.
Some locations that will be visited by the Japanese students are Kembangsono, Karangsemut and Puton, Trimulyo, Jetis, Bantul, and Merapi temporary shelters. Furthermore, they will also be doing presentation on the research they conducted.
"There are also visits to some NGOs, UGM DERU, Borobudur, in addition to presenting the research results," said Hanafi.
