YOGYAKARTA – As many as 20 thousands of job seekers flocked to Career Days X held at Graha Sabha Pramana, 4-5 February. They were competing for 636 positions offered by 75 companies. Chairman of the event, Nurhadi, said of the 20 thousands of job seekers, about 80 percent are graduates of universities in Yogyakarta while the rest comes from outside Yogyakarta such as from ITB, UI, ITS and Hasanudin University. "From Yogyakarta, most of them graduated from Universitas Gadjah Mada, followed by UPN and UII," Nurhadi said to reporters on Saturday (4/2).
Approximately 8000 workers are expected to be recruited in the job fair this time. However, of the 20 thousand of job seekers only about 12 percent can be recruited, because they must meet the qualifications set by the company. For the recruitment process, the committee provided 23 spots of selection. "The ones who are recruited is usually 12-20 percent," he said.
He added that the job seekers do not pass the selection not because they are less intelligent, but because they are not mentally ready to follow the selection process. In addition, it is also due to ignorance of company culture. "The job seekers need to know the company culture and know themselves well. What happened was that they apply to all companies," he said.
Some companies following the job market this time are PT Bank Mandiri Tbk, PT PLN, PT. BNI Tbk, PT. BTN Tbk, PT. Astra International, PT. BRI Tbk, PT. Freeport Indonesia, PT. HM Sampoerna, and PT Schlumberger.
