To get closer to the community, especially high schools world, UGM residence held a "Luncheon Gathering of UGM Residence and Vocational High Schools in Yogyakarta”, Thursday (27/10) in the Rorojonggrang room, Darmaputra Residence, Jalan Andong. 1 Baciro, Yogyakarta. A total of 46 Principal of Vocational High Schools (SMK) follow this activity. Besides introducing Universitas Gadjah Mada University Residence, the activity was also introducing the Industrial Internship program conducted by vocational high school students at UGM Residence.
According to General Manager of UGM Residence, Boyke Rudi Purnomo, SE, MM the Luncheon Gathering is an effort for the Residence to get closer to stakeholders. Of course, this activity is a form that UGM not only concerned with educational issues, but also community service. "Community service does not always by conducting the service learning, but can also contribute to other educational actors," he said.
With the four buildings namely Bulaksumur Residence, Cemaralima Residence, Darmaputra Residence and Ratnaningsih Residence, UGM Residence is only capable of meeting 800 bed units. Therefore, to meet the ideal students resident, UGM is looking to complete the construction of two dormitory units on the Jalan Kinanti, Barek and Sendowo, Blimbingsari. "Hopefully, with construction that is estimated to complete within two years, we are able to provide 2000 beds," Boyke Rudi added.
By staying at UGM Student Dormitory, Boyke said, the students will get many benefits. In addition to accelerating adaptation to campus environment, students who live in the dorms will get additional soft-skills; the lessons that would not necessarily be obtained when students live outside the dormitory. "Not only a place to sleep. In the dormitory we provide help on communications, transportation and logistics issues. Also soft-skills in form of lessons and additional experience about entrepreneurship, leadership, negotiation techniques and others," he said.
In addition to that, UGM Residence also opens opportunity for Industry Internship for vocational students in Yogyakarta. Some vocational high schools which have accounting and marketing department already sent students to the UGM Residence to conduct Internship. "Therefore, we invite ladies and gentlements in this event. This is the link and match that could be beneficial to both parties,” Boyke explained to the school Principals in Yogyakarta.
The gathering also presented a discussion between UGM Residence managers and Principals of vocational high schools in Yogyakarta. In addition to it, there are also door prizes for guests and entertainment by Yance and Nunuk Entertainment group.
