Kulonprogo – Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UGM and Solidarity of Wives of Members of United Indonesia Cabinet (SIKIB) held Binangun Etawa Contest (BEC) Regent Cup on Sunday (9/10). The event was held in the framework of the first anniversary of Hargotirto Prosperous Village since inaugurated by Mrs. Any Yudhoyono.
LPPM Community Services Manager, Adi Wibowo, S.T, said that Universitas Gadjah Mada and SIKIB will continue to encourage and facilitate the development of Hargotirto to be prosperous village by improving the economy, including through the development of products of palm sugar, Etawa livestock, and herbal plants cultivation. "UGM continues to encourage and facilitate the development, but the success depends on the community itself," he said.
According to Adi Wibowo, the success in the past year is not separated from the established cooperation by all parties involved, including local government, SIKIB, UGM and Hargotirto community. All programs were conducted through mentoring by KKN PPM students. "All universities will be ready to help, even the students will continue to be deployed to Hargotirto," he said.
Adi conveyed the cooperation results from KKN PPM activities by adjusting the five-pillar programs of SIKIB, Smart Indonesia, Healthy Indonesia, Creative Indonesia, Green Indonesia and Indonesia Care were realized with the utilization of computer centers, routine health checks, palm sugar product development, fish breeding, and development of youth organization and traditional music.
Kulonprogo Regent, dr. Hasto Wardoyo, Sp.OG., in his speech read by Regional Secretary Assistant II expressed his appreciation on the partnership of prosperous village program between SIKIB and UGM in Hargotirto. The Binangun Etawa Contest will hopefully encourage people to begin implementing Etawa farming, especially people living in Menoreh hills. "In Menoreh hills there are many excellent quality etawa breeding (PE) goat farms. These can be great potential if the community can maintain the quality," he said.
Hasto Wardoyo proposed to form PE goat breeders association to promote PE goat breeding for farmers who live around Menoreh hills. " PE Goat which has become an icon could be a mainstay for the breeders to be able to improve their welfare," he said.
Anniversary celebration of Hargotirto Prosperous Village was marked by cutting a tumpeng (rice cone) conducted by SIKIB representative, Mrs. Dani Hendarman Supanji, followed by prize handover for the Etawa contest, which is followed by 170 participants.
