YOGYAKARTA-As many as 144 UGM students who joined the program of Friends of Education Quality Improvement Acceleration (SP2MP) followed a studium generale at Auditorium of Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Saturday (2/4). The Studium Generale was conducted by a lecturer of Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Drs. Koentjoro., MBSc., Ph.D., a psychologist.
Students also received a briefing from Director of Student Affairs, Drs.Haryanto, M. Si and Head of Sub-directorate of Leadership Quality Improvement Growth (AEOS), Abdul Razaq Chasani, M.Si.
In his presentation, Razaq explained that the program of Friends of Education Quality Improvement Acceleration (SP2MP) is a program designed to foster and develop leadership skills among the students of UGM. Through this program, students will get a series of self-development programs to foster leadership in the form of training, intensive group discussions, mentoring, action plan, etc.
"This year there are 144 students from Faculties and Departments who will follow the SP2MP program," said Razaq.
Razaq added that students who joined this SP2MP will get some necessary skills and experience that will give them the opportunity to actualize themselves in their respective environment. Self-actualization is expected to be a means of transfer of capability, skills and experience that have been obtained during the period of learning SP2MP in academic and non-academic fields.
"Skills development that we provide includes self-management training, skills of thinking and leadership, etc.," said Razaq.
Meanwhile, the Director of Student Affairs, Drs. Haryanto, M. Si emphasized that intellectuality is the basic capital for students to be able to develop and work in communities and workplace. With the quality that is obtained especially through SP2MP and in college, students are expected to be competitive at work.
"Therefore, one of the efforts to be successful and qualified is made through this SP2MP so that students can improve their hard skills and soft skills," said Haryanto.
In the same place, Prof.Drs.Koentjoro in his lecture provided motivation and encouragement to students to continue working and being creative in accordance with their respective fields. Knowing the motivation will bring the energy that encourages every student to improve their ability.
"Like a bike race, we have to race against ourselves and other people. Thereby, there are external and internal factors," Koentjoro said.
Koentjoro also described some factors that need to be considered so that students can be excellent, among others students have to love a challenge and focus on the achievement, optimal results-oriented, work is always measured, never satisfied with the results, and willing to learn from experience.
"Things that should not be forgotten is prioritizing friendship and always learning from strengths and weaknesses," he explained.
In the studium generale that was also attended by representatives of Faculties in UGM was also carried out the symbolic handover of students from and to Faculty and SP2MP certificates to the students symbolically by the Director of Student Affairs. The handover to the Faculties was represented by the Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Research of Faculty of Biology, Dr. Endang Semiarti, M.S., M.Sc. Meanwhile, two representatives of students who received certificates symbolically are Iik Susanti (Faculty of Agricultural Technology) and Anton Giyanto (Faculty of Engineering).
