YOGYAKARTA – Indonesian Consortium for Religious Studies (ICRS) Yogyakarta provides scholarships on international doctoral program and cross-cultural religious studies. The amount of scholarships offered is up to U.S. $27,000 or 250 million rupiah. The scholarship is for four years, including living expenses, book allowance and health insurance. "All scholarships offered will be evaluated every semester," Director of ICRS Yogya, Dr. Siti Syamsiyatun, told reporters on Tuesday (22/3), in Stana Parahita Room UGM.
ICRS Yogya is international S-3 study program in the field of interfaith and cross-culture. The study program is the only one in Indonesia as a result of a consortium of three universities, namely Universitas Gadjah Mada, Sunan Kalijaga Islamic State University, and Duta Wacana Christian University. ICRS Yogya also has a network of cooperation with various universities in Asia, Europe, America, and Africa.
Founded in 2006, ICRS Yogya has a vision as an international doctoral program that not only has academic excellence, but also maintains the Indonesian character. Up to now, the ICRS Yogya has about 40 students from 10 countries, among others, China, Myanmar, Philippines, Serbia, Singapore, Egypt, Poland, and America.
Siti said, as interfaith and cultural study program, students from diverse backgrounds learn religious beliefs together with full openness and mutual respect. "Among of its missions are to provide a learning place for religious leaders who have communication skills in interfaith and …cross-discipline…, and to promote cooperation, peace, and justice for all people," she said.
Deputy Director of the ICRS Yogya, Dr. Wening Udasmoro added, ICRS Yogya also provides opportunities for students to do the Sandwich Program for one semester at a number of leading overseas universities such as Georgetown University, Duke University, Florida International University, Temple University, National of Singapore, and Cape Town University. "Sandwich Program shall be conducted by students to provide an international experience for students as well as religious perspectives in the international community," she added.
To learn further about scholarship and doctoral education in the ICRS, the Open House is going to be held on Friday (25/3) which is open to the public and academicians who are interested to study S-3 in ICRS-Yogya. Open house will be held at the 3rd floor of UGM Graduate School.
Registration of new students has been opened. The deadline for registration of prospective students with ITP-TOEFL score between 475-525 is 28 March 2011. For prospective students with ITP-TOEFL score above 525, the deadline is up to June 14, 2011.
