UGM students once again boast their achievements in international forum. UGM delegation comprises 18 students of West Asian Literature Department successfully achieved two awards at once, namely as the Best International Group and the 2nd Best Music Award in the Festival of Colour of the World (FESCO), 2011. The activity is held at the Chancellor Hall, Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Malaysia, 4-5 March.
The festival is followed by various universities in Asia, such as Walailak University Thailand, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, HELP University College, and enlivened by the Petronas Performing Arts Group (PPAG).
In the annual festival, UGM features three performances. First, Rampoe Dance, which is a combination of several traditional Acehnese dances, such as Saman Gayo, Likok Pulo, Pukat Dance, and Rateeb Meuseukat, which are performed by nine dancers. Secondly is the instrument fusion between Rapa’I instrument (Aceh traditional drum) and Gamelan Melayu (Malaysia). This instrument performance is presented by Rapa’i team from UGM and UTP Malay Gamelan team. At the last performance, the UGM delegation performs Rapa’i Geleng Dance, one of the traditional dances of Aceh. The Rapa’I Geleng Dance is performed by eight dancers, all holding Rapa’i, a percussion musical instrument.
