YOGYAKARTA-Socialization Team of Strategic Plan 2010-2014 of House of Representatives visited UGM. The team was led by Vice Chairman of Domestic Affairs Board of the House, dr.Indrawati Sukadis. Their arrival was received directly by UGM Rector, Prof.Ir.Sudjarwadi, M. Eng, Ph.D, accompanied by Senior Vice Rector for Administration, Finance and Human Resources, Prof. Ainun Na’im, MBA, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor Alumni Affairs and Business Development, Prof. Ir. Atyanto Dharoko, M. Phil., Ph.D., Deans, Directors and Unit Heads of the university.
In her speech, dr.Indrawati Sukadis emphasized the arrival of the team to UGM is to disseminate the plan of the House for five years 2010-2014 to all stakeholders. Therefore, objective understanding will emerge on the performance of the Parliament from the community.
"The visit is intended to have an objective understanding of the public on the performance of members of Parliament so there will be no misunderstanding," Indrawati said in the Multimedia Room of UGM.
Indrawati said that they also sought feedback from partners, in this case UGM and several other universities in Yogyakarta, to the five-year work plan of the House. Strategic Plan of House of Representatives of 2010-2014 which has been endorsed in a plenary session on July 29, 2010 mentioned their priority agenda, namely institutional strengthening, strengthening of public relations of the House, budget management independence, main infrastructure development, parliamentary library, strengthening the means of representation and development of e-parliament.
"To measure the success of each implementation of programs and activities effectively and efficiently, the Strategic Plan also establishes a measure of performance," she added.
As it is known as the mandate of Law, the House has legislative, budgetary, and monitoring functions. Besides, in carrying out its functions, the Parliament has the right of interpellation, inquiry, and the right to express an opinion.
She pointed out in the ordinary function of legislation, at least during the recent five years, House of Representatives period 2004-2009 successfully completed 173 draft Laws to be legalized as Law from 284 Laws which had been planned in the National Legislation Program.
"We had obstacles in resolving this bill including limited expert staff in the House of Representatives and the limited time related to the tight schedule of MPs," said a member of Parliament from the Democratic Party.
In response to the visit, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M. Eng, Ph.D., supported the activities. The socialization of Strategic Plan is expected to build integration and connection with UGM programs in preparing the leaders of the nation.
"Research may be a means of learning for students," said Sudjarwadi. The event which was hosted by the UGM Executive Secretary, Drs. Djoko Moerdiyanto, MA., the presenter was Dr. Ir. Heru Purboyo, Budget Bureau Chief of House of Representatives. In the discussion, many issues and inputs emerged such as the issue of Higher Education Bill, political education, institutional strengthening and character education.
