UGM students once again have a chance to make proud their University and the Indonesian in international level competition. UGM Bima Sakti team was elected to be the only Indonesian representative in the 9th competition Students Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Japan 2011. In the event to be held from 5 to 9 September 2011 at ECOPA (Ogasayama Sports Park), Japan, the Bima Sakti will compete with 84 university teams from around the world.
UGM Bima Sakti team consisting of 16 students of Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, became the only representatives team from the UGM. The team has specifically been appointed by the Ministry of National Education Republic of Indonesia to represent Indonesia in the prestigious international competition.
The 9th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan 2011 is an annual competition hosted by Japan’s Society of Automotive Engineers (JSAE) to create a formula car with a 600cc engine. In this competition, all vehicles that are contested will be assessed, ranging from the preparation of cost analysis, engineering design, presentation, acceleration of vehicles, fuel efficiency, endurance, Autocross, and skid-pad.
The team that was formed in November 2010 has been officially registered as a member of the Association of Automotive Technology (IATO). IATO is the SAE’s official representative for Indonesia.
Sixteen of students who are members of the Bima Sakti team are Akmal Irfan Majid (Mechanical Engineering), Andika Rinaldo Asry (Industrial Engineering), Nosal Nugroho Pratama (Mechanical Engineering), Riandro Pramudyo (Mechanical Engineering), Fresilia Sukmawanty (Industrial Engineering), Azhari Kurnia P (Mechanical Engineering), and Monanda Wandita R. (Industrial Engineering). Furthermore, Hadiyan Yusuf Kuntoro (Mechanical Engineering), Muhammad Audi Yusuf (Industrial Engineering), Akbar Suryo Sadarpo (Mechanical Engineering), Ahmad Ghozi (Mechanical Engineering), and Mithafirsty Annisa Cesarysti (Industrial Engineering).
In addition, there are also Habdhimas Sughandhiko (Mechanical Engineering), Budi Santoso (Mechanical Engineering), Doddy Jonathan Hutabarat (Industrial Engineering), and Mahathelge Mohammad (Industrial Engineering). The sixteen students were accompanied by three lecturers, namely Fauzun ST., M.T, Ph.D., Muhammad Agung Bramantya ST., MT., M. Eng., Ph.D., and I Gusti Budi Dharma ST, M. Eng., Ph.D.
Andika Rinaldo Asrysays there are about 20 awards that will be contested in the 9th Formula SAE Students competition. The Bima Sakti team hopes to do its best in this prestigious competition. "We are not aspiring to become the top ranking team in this competition. However, at least there are three main targets for Indonesia’s debut in the international competition that are followed by prestigious universities from Japan, Korea, India, Germany and other developed countries. These are the Best Rookie Team Award, The Most Impressive Website, and the Best Design awards" he expressed his hope.
