Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) announced on Thursday (Jun. 13) that it has accepted 2,830 new students through the national entrance test (SNBT) pathway. These students are enrolled in 93 programs, including 71 undergraduate and 22 applied undergraduate programs.
The UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Professor Wening Udasmoro, stated that the 2,830 students accepted through the SNBT pathway were selected from 91,926 applicants.
“The total number of SNBT applicants who chose to study at UGM is around 91,926,” Professor Udasmoro said in a statement sent to reporters on Sunday (Jun. 16).
According to the vice-rector, the average selection competitiveness in the SNBT pathway is very tight this time.
“The average competitiveness percentage across all programs is 3.08%,” she said.
This competitiveness percentage is calculated by comparing the number of applicants with the available seats. The higher the average competitiveness percentage, the lower the competition. Conversely, the lower the percentage, the higher the competition.
Professor Udasmoro mentioned 30 of the most competitive programs across the four clusters, namely Agro, Health and Medicine, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences and Humanities, in the SNBT pathway at UGM this time.
The vice-rector listed the five programs with the highest competitiveness in the Health and Medicine cluster: Medicine 1.39%, Nutrition 2.75%, Nursing 3.06%, Dentistry 3.33%, and Pharmacy 3.59%.
For the Science and Technology cluster, the programs are Information Engineering 1.60%, Computer Science 1.97%, Architecture 2.54%, Civil Engineering 2.92%, and Industrial Engineering 2.94%.
The five most competitive programs in the Agro cluster are Food and Agricultural Product Technology 3.25%, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness 5.59%, Agricultural Extension and Communication 7.41%, Plant Protection 7.54%, and Agricultural Microbiology 8.21%.
The five most competitive programs in the Social Sciences and Humanities cluster are Communication Studies 1.49%, International Relations 1.62%, Psychology 1.69%, Management 1.73%, and Accounting 1.94%.
The five most competitive Science and Technology cluster programs in the applied undergraduate programs are Health Information Management 0.95%, Civil Infrastructure Management and Maintenance 1.27%, Software Engineering Technology 1.34%, Mechanical Engineering Technology 1.94%, and Forest Management 1.95%.
The programs in the Social Sciences and Humanities cluster are Public Sector Accounting 0.83%, English 0.91%, Archives and Information Records Management 1.19%, Japanese Language for Business and Professional Communication 1.33%, and Banking 1.40%.
UGM Secretary Dr. Andi Sandi stated that the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) for new students accepted through the SNBT pathway has stayed the same for the 2023/2024 academic year.
“There is no increase; it remains the same as last year,” he said.
Regarding the Institutional Development Contribution (IPI), Dr. Sandi said that UGM only applies IPI to prospective new students entering through the 2024 Independent Selection pathway and categorized under Excellence Education Single Tuition Fee (UKT PU).
IPI is not charged to new students entering through the academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP), the SNBT, or the Independent Selection categorized under Subsidized UKT PU.
“The IPI is paid once for the entire study period, amounting to Rp20 million for Social Sciences and Humanities fields and Rp30 million for Science, Technology, and Health fields,” he said.
Nevertheless, Dr. Sandi added implementing UKT and IPI is expected not to hinder prospective students from continuing their education at UGM. Additionally, UGM provides an option for students to pay the IPI in installments.
For information, students in the UKT 1 and UKT 2 categories are still included in the Subsidized UKT PU group and are charged zero rupiah, meaning they are free. The amounts for new students in the UKT 3 to UKT 5 categories vary as they fall under the Subsidized UKT PU group, ranging from 75% and 50% to 25% subsidies.
In contrast, students in the UKT 6 or UKT PU are charged the highest UKT rates, with the highest rates in Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine programs at Rp24,700,000 and the lowest rates in Philosophy and Sociology programs at Rp7,557,000.
The UKT determination is based on the Economic Capability Index (IKE) of the new student’s family profile. The IKE indicators include parents’ income, family dependents, annual tax returns, and electricity capacity.
