In celebration of its 69th Anniversary, the Faculty of Economics and Business at UGM (FEB UGM) held a traditional ketoprak performance titled Labuhan Katresnan on Saturday (Sep. 14) at FEB UGM.
This ketoprak performance stood out from typical ketoprak shows as several cast members were not professional ketoprak actors. Instead, the performers included the dean, vice deans, lecturers, and staff who formed the Dokar FEB UGM ketoprak group.
The Labuhan Katresnan performance tells the love story of Galuh Candra Kirana from the Kingdom of Kediri and Panji Asmoro Bangun from the Kingdom of Jenggala.
Directed by Martono and Dandun H.W., the show featured 24 supporting cast members and was accompanied by traditional ketoprak music performed by the Sekar Laras FEB UGM music group.
The performance presents Galuh Candra Kirana’s journey after being exiled from Kediri to reunite with Panji Asmoro Bangun in a lighthearted dialogue.
Though the message conveyed is serious, the show was relaxed, with humor interspersed to entertain the audience.
Professor Basu Swastha Dharmmesta, a retired lecturer who participated in the ketoprak, noted that the story centers on true love that remains unbroken despite many challenges.
“Through this ketoprak performance, we hope to convey a message to the audience about loyalty and commitment,” he stated.
Professor Dharmmesta explained that the performance’s underlying message was directed toward all FEB UGM academic and professional community members.
He emphasized that loyalty is built through experience, trust, and positive perception, and he hopes the performance encourages the entire FEB UGM community to remain loyal and support the faculty’s development.
The professor further expressed that this ketoprak performance is part of FEB UGM’s efforts to preserve traditional arts and culture. It also serves to spark interest in traditional arts among younger generations.
