The Gamantaray Team from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) achieved a proud milestone once again at the national-level Semarak Mahasiswa Perkapalan (SAMPAN) competition, held at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya on September 13-14.
UGM’s success at this event came from two leading teams.
The GAMANAVE Team, comprising students from different faculties, secured first place in the NASDARC Boat Race Competition (BRC).
Equally remarkable, the NAVITERRA Team also made it into the Top 5 among dozens of participants in the Sampan Maritime Competition (SMC).
The NASDARC Team consisted of Dzaky Arya Farhan and Naufal Abiy Syariati from Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM); Herdito Adhitya Rukmana from Electrical Engineering, FT UGM; and Keyra Dinda Cahyaning from Internet Engineering Technology, UGM Vocational College (SV UGM).
Meanwhile, the NAVITERRA Team was led by M. Rafaella Bintang N. from Mechanical Engineering, FT UGM; M. Najwan Fadlillah from Software Engineering Technology, SV UGM; and Dhani Adriansyah from Electronics and Instrumentation, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UGM).
These two achievements reaffirm the consistency and hard work of UGM’s Gamantaray Team in delivering innovations every year.
- Dafi Putra Radian, Head of Gamantaray, explained that these two outstanding achievements did not come easily.
He highlighted the importance of consistent research and innovation carried out by all team members over the past year.
“We are very grateful. Last year we won first place, and this year we were able to defend the title,” said Radian on Friday, Sep. 19, 2025.
He expressed his pride in the dedication and perseverance of his team.
For him, this victory was concrete proof that long and exhausting efforts had finally paid off.
Behind the success of the Gamantaray Team, Radian said, lies a long story of commitment and hard work.
“Every day, our workshop is always filled with student activities assembling prototype ships,” he added.
Additionally, the structured regeneration system has strengthened teamwork among team members.
He explained that the team begins the process with interns who are then assigned to operational and technical divisions.
“We help them find a team that matches their interests and talents,” he explained.
Equally important, according to Radian, is the crucial support and role of faculty advisors.
Each team receives intensive mentoring from lecturers who not only supervise but also serve as mentors in solving complex technical problems.
“The close collaboration between students and lecturers has become the formula for Gamantaray’s success,” he emphasized.
He further stated that winning at the national level demonstrates the team’s mastery of maritime technology.
For UGM students, participation in this competition was not merely a showcase of skills, but also a platform for young Indonesian innovators to test their creativity, hone their technical expertise, and strengthen teamwork in designing future ship technology.
