The Graduate School at Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) held its 42nd Anniversary Celebration on Thursday (Oct. 16) at the SPs UGM Auditorium. This year’s celebration carried the theme “Transformation Towards Indonesia with Excellent Human Resources.”
UGM Rector, Professor Ova Emilia, expressed her full support for the SPs’ commitment to producing graduates with strong competence and resilience. To achieve this goal, she emphasized the need for curriculum renewal supported by modern teaching and learning approaches.
“Transformation requires courage because we must be willing to reexamine and reinvent ourselves to keep pace with the rapid changes,” said Professor Emilia.
According to her, resilient human resources must possess analytical thinking, creativity, innovation, adaptability, agility, and strong character to meet the evolving challenges posed by automation and technological advancement.

Dean of SPs UGM, Professor Siti Malkhamah, stated that the school’s commitment to enhancing human resource competence is reflected in its ongoing efforts to improve program accreditation. She reported that most master’s and doctoral programs at the school have now achieved A or “Excellent” accreditation status.
In terms of academic output, SPs UGM published 371 papers in 2024, comprising 100 national and 271 international publications, including book chapters, books, journals, intellectual property rights, and conference proceedings.
On the international stage, the Graduate School’s Religious Studies program achieved a remarkable milestone by ranking 51–100 globally in the 2024 Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings (QS WUR).
“Theology, Divinity, and Religious Studies is ranked number one in Indonesia and 51–100 globally,” Professor Malkhamah explained.
Admiral (Ret.) Professor Marsetio, Special Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, delivered a scientific oration titled “Strengthening UGM’s Multidisciplinary Graduate School in Supporting the Realization of Golden Indonesia 2045.”
In his oration, he emphasized that to face the challenges of Indonesia’s Vision 2045, UGM must continue advancing interdisciplinary education and research.
“We can no longer move backward. We must come forward, not just one step, but a thousand steps ahead,” Professor Marsetio asserted.

He called on all members of the SPs UGM academic community to contribute to achieving Indonesia’s 2045 vision by developing superior human resources.
“The contribution of lecturers, professors, teaching staff, support personnel, and alumni will ensure that SPs UGM continues to thrive,” he concluded.
