The world is facing multiple problems in biodiversity utilization and management as affected by the increase of human population, land degaradation, and deforestation along with inappropriate economics and development policies. The critical problem is natural degradation that threathening biodiversity which is imperatively to be overcome. On the other hand, a changing of the global environment has an impact to the existence of organisms. Strategies to adapt and survive in a changing of the global environment need to be studied at the cellular, tissue, organ, organism and ecosystem level.
Indonesia is well known as a mega biodiversity country which has high levels of endemism and provides width variety of home for flowering plant species, Bird, Coral, Mammalian, Microbes, Mollusk and many others. Its tropical forest cover is still extensive, particularly in Papua, North Sumatra, and Kalimantan. In order to maintain and conserve the forest cover Indonesia aims to preserve it forest as Protected Areas (PAs) and recent data showed that, Indonesia has allocated over 10% of its land area as PAs. However, it is a fact that forest cover continues to declining rapidly, and threatening its biological diversity. Indonesia now days face a wide array of threats to its tropical forests and biodiversity.
Biological sciences plays an important role in managing bio-resourcess, and is expected to have consciousness on the environmental problems, and accordingly, should concern about the sustainability of the future biodiversity. Hence, a good understanding tropical biodiversity management and conservation for supporting human prosperity.
