YOGYAKARTA – The Universitas Gadjah Mada team has won a gold medal and a silver medal in the XIV National Musabaqoh Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) event for students at Universitas Indonesia (UI) Jakarta from 1-8 August. In the biennial event hosted by the Research and Technology ministry, the UGM team consisting of Farid Amin Ridwanto, Rian Adam Rajagede, and Alfian Try Putranto, has earned the gold medal in the Quran Computer Application Design. Meanwhile, Rano Dwijaya won the Quran Scientific Paper Writing.
There are 186 universities with as many as 1,863 students joining the event. UGM came out the big four there. The full winners are Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Malikussaleh, Universitas Negeri Medan, Universitas Negeri Surabaya, and Universitas Muhhammadiyah Sumatera Utara.
UGM’s Head for Student Creativity unit, Ahmad Agus Setiawan,S.T., M.Sc.,Ph.D., said the Student National MTQ would be run in 2017 with UGM being one of the host candidates.
