Ice cream is a favourite among many people. But you need to try the ice cream made by students of Universitas Gadjah Mada as it is different from any other ice cream. The ice cream with the label Veggie Wagen is made from nutritious vegetables.
Anggita Rimadani that makes the Veggie Wagen said the students were concerned with the low interest in the young people around them in consuming vegetables. Hence, Anggita with six of the her fellow stuents at Faculty of Economics and Business were trying to turn vegetables into a more favorable delicacy, which is ice cream.
“It all started with the lack of interest among students who don’t pay much attention to healthy food, lacking in vegetables, we made the innovation by processing the vegetables into an ice cream liked by many,” she said on Thursday (8/10) during Entrepreneur and Creative Arts Festival at Faculty of Economics and Business UGM.
Along with Nadia Nurina Azti, Iin Wulandari, Retno Wulandari, Khabib Wahyu Effendi, Galih Prakoso, and Aswanuddin Hamid, Anggita made the Veggiwagen using brassica, carrots, and red spinach. “At present we have only developed three variants, brassica, carrots, and spinach,”she said.
She explained it is easy to produce the ice cream just like making the normal ice crea, The vegetables are cooked to get the essence then it is processed with other ingredients. One production produces 4 littres of ice cream.
“For one production process we produce up to 4 littres of ice cream with the addition of 2 kg of vegetables,” said Iin Wulandari.
Currently, the Veggie Wagen is only sold at entrepreneurial expos with one cup costing Rp10 thousands. They offer toppings such as chochochip, almond, bubble, marshmallow, oreo, and cornflake,” she said
