Two Architecture students of Universitas Gadjah Mada became the runner-up winner in the Indonesia Landscape Design Competition (ILDC) 2015 hosted by Landscape Student Association (Himaskap) of Bogor Institute of Agriculture in cooperation with the local government of Bogor municipality and Komunitas Burung Indonesia (bird community) organisation on Saturday (17/10/2015) in Bogor.

The Architecture Engineering and Planning students, Bayu Kusuma Adi and Natasha Nurul Annisa, have re-designed the Ahmad Yani urban forest that lies in the city of Bogor to become a safe and comfortable habitat for birds living there and migrating birds.

“It was something difficult to do as the surrounding areas were part of a city with high level of activities and noise,” said Bayu on Friday (23/10).

Bayu said they raised the theme Co-Exist: It’s Mine, It’s Yours, It’s Ours! for the competition that emphasised how important it is for man to share the habitat with Nature. The co-exist experience is put into the three divisions of zones that include Bird Sanctuary, Human Sanctuary, and Co-existence Area. Bird Sanctuary with the biggest area is focused on the bird habitat that is safe and comfortable added with local vegetations. Human Sanctuary picks up visitors from the entrance is equipped with playground and relaxing facilities with attractive groundcover. The Co-existence Area offers opportunities for visitors to see their surrounding through the perspective of a bird.

“In this concept, sustainable development takes our attention, being applied in the system of rainwater management on site for green corridor,” said Bayu.

Natasha added that prior to their departure for Bogor, their work had been selected along with others from across Indonesia. “We were very thankful to have been able to go to the next selection phase and finally won the competition,” Natasha concluded.
