Philantrophist, Dato’ Sri Prof. Dr. Tahir, on Friday (6/11) gave a general lecture titled To Build Entrepreneurial Character to Increase Competitive Power Globally in the Senate Hall of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
To the hundreds of students, Tahir shared his secret that led to his success so far. In his views, there are four major points in life. First is truth, that man is the the first stepping point to be true. Second is chaos that is caused by the wrong goal. Third is making added value to a success, such as making other people happy. Fourth, mind of life, creating happiness. Tahir himself grew in a strict family, making it an honour for him to help the poor.
“The goal of a human being is not merely a matter of becoming a professor, lecturer, rector, or even the president. Those are all just a process in life, not a goal,” said Tahir.
Tahir said Indonesia had now become a primadonna, which makes many other nations to take interest in. He is convinced that if Indonesia is consistent in developing its economy, by year 2016 Indonesia will be unshakeable. “In the 19th century, England controlled the world, in the 20th it was the turn for the U.S., now the 21st century is for Asia and Indonesia becoming the primadonna,” he said.
On corruption issue, Tahir mentioned three points to tackle that: media openness, welfare and system improvement.
Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., said currently UGM was developing socio-entrepreneurship. Dr. Tahir’s presence is thus expected to channel knowledge and inspiration related to business or social realms to students.
“Dr. Tahir is a national and international figure. It’s important to invite a role model like himself to learn how to go ahead and make progress, so students are ready to become world leaders,” she confirmed.
