As part of a series of 66th anniversary of UGM celebrations, UGM hosts a national seminar themed ‘Inclusion Harmony’ on Saturday (5/12) in Grha Sabha Pramana to give care to the people with disabilities. It is a form of UGM’s contribution to explore the potentials of disabled people.
The event also presented Panji Surya Sahetapy and Habibi Afsyah, who have made achievements despite their disabilities. Panji Surya Sahetapy won IT competition for the deaf while Habibi Afsyah is a young internet marketer. They gave presentation also became motivators.
The event was opened by a music performance by disabled children from SLB Negeri 1 Yogyakarta.It was attended by Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. dr. Irwan Dwiprahasto, M.Med. Sc., Ph.D, anniversary committee, Prof. Dr. Ir. Cahyono Agus DK, M.Agr.Sc. as well as representatives from organisations for the Disabled.
Karim Muhammad, chairman of UGM Student Unit for Disabled People, said this event was a forum for creativity of disabled people. Prof. Cahyono Agus said the theme of ‘Harmony’ had the intention to align differences and realise a harmony.
“From the differences, we respect each other. There is no such thing as limitation and discrimination,” said Cahyono.
Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs said diversity was the colour of beauty. According to Prof. Iwan, diversity has basic values such as happiness, beauty, tolerance, and all of those make people better. “All has the potential to develop the country, there is no difference, no inabilities, but we have choices. We explore this potential for the better future,” he said.
