More than 400 people from Yogyakarta and outside of Yogyakarta participated in Jogja Exotic Cycling (JEC), Saturday (13/2). An event initiated by Gadjah Mada Gowes (GamaGO) cycling community saw its participants going to the exotic route such as Prambanan Temple, Plaosan Temple, Lumbung Temple, Brubah and Sewu Temple, Sojiwan Temple, and Ratu Boko Temple.
Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., said that this event is coherent with UGM mission to become the center of knowledge and culture. She said that by going on a bike to the tourism destination will raise our fondness of Indonesian culture.
“This event will strengthen the fondness of our culture,” Dwikorita said in her speech in front of UGM main building.
Meanwhile, director of national airliner PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, Arif Wibowo, appreciates this event. Garuda Indonesia is ready to collaborate with UGM, academic or non-academically. Jogja Exotic Cycling, according to Arif, will draw Garuda Indonesia closer to the society while promote Yogyakarta as tourism destination.
“Not just this event, but (we)will collaborate in both academic and non-academic fields,” Arif explained.
Vice-Governor of the Province of Yogyakarta Special Region, KGPAA Paku Alam X, who was present in the event welcomed Jogja Exotic Cycling well. He viewed the route for JEC is very special because it passed through some temples. “I’m sure it will enrich visual experience of the participants,” Paku Alam X said.
In JEC, participants were divided into 5 groups and 10 sub-groups. Every group had 2 sub-groups and led by Road Captain while guarded by Group Marshall.
Participants of JEC got a chance to ride a bike in an interesting and challenging route. Participants were also given a break to enjoy the tourism area. In the evening, participants were entertained by Ramayana ballet, music performance, bike auctions, and doorprizes.
