Large luggage is almost always carried by travellers. But carrying a large luggage at airport can be inconvenient.
To resolve this problem, students of Universitas Gadjah Mada have created Koper Follower (Koplo), or Follower Luggage, a technology that enables the lugagge to automatically move where we go.

Five Electrical Engineering students in UGM Vocational School - Adfiana Pramudaswari, Addy Rahmad Nurcahyo, Setio Imanulloh, Luhur Wasisa Adi Nugroho, and Rahmad Kurniawan - made an innovation in public transport facilities, particularly usable at airports. It serves as a trolley that can move automatically to the direction where the owner goes.

“A trolley definitely is usable for travellers having bulky luggage, but they have to keep moving the trolley. This has made us want to create the Koper Follower or Koplo,” said Adfiana on Thursday (9/6).
Koplo is equipped with a camera attached to the front to identify the owner through a leg bracelet they wear.

“The luggage owner wears a leg bracelet and the colour of the bracelet is used as a reference for the camera to move accordingly,” said Addy.

Apart from the auto-follow characteristic, the tool can work through a remote control with a smartphone being used as the controller.

The Koplo prototype is still being made. For mass use at airports, further improvements need to be made.

“In outlines, the tool comprised of micro-controller (Arduino Mega, Pixy camera, DC Motor DC). A used power window is also attached onto it. We need to improve this tool for more benefits for people,” said Muhammad Arrofiq, supervising lecturer.
