PSM UGM Siap Mengharumkan UGM di Italia

UGM Students Choir has been actively participating in university events as well as national and international competitions.
This year, the UGM Choir consisting of 32 students will join another international event, namely Rimini International Choral Competition to be held from 22-25 September 2016 in Rimini, Italy. They will participate in the categories of Folklore and Gospel and Sacred. They will present repertoires O Magnum Misterium, Gloria Patri, O Nata Lux, and Ubi Caritas for the Sacred category and Ugo-ugo, Tak Tongtong, and Benggong for Folklore, as well as Let Me Fly for Gospel category.

The UGM team will also carry a cultural mission, which is to promote the Nusantara culture through the song and costume that they present in the event.

“We will be doing competition as well as promoting Indonesian culture,” said one of the chairmen of the choir, Ade, on Friday (1/7).

Despite the lack of funds, the UGM Choir keeps their spirit high during practising and they collect funds independently. They get sponsors through concerts as well as personal contributions.  “We’re still short of funding, so, we still need sponsors in any form,” he said.

Many achievements have been obtained by the UGM Choir during its 45 years of existence. The last being the gold medal winner in the folkore and silver in mixed choir as well as special awards Best Scenic Folklore Prize during the 10th Anniversary A Voyage Of Song (AVOS) International Choral Festival in Bangkok, Thailand year 2013.
