UGM students have made another achivement. Now it is Irvandias Sanjaya, Psychology student, winning a business competition during the Youth Global Forum 2016 that was organised by a youth organisation from the Czech Republic, Youth Time, in Jakarta from 23-26 November.
Irvandias Sanjaya won the Best People Choice Award Social Competition, beating other participants from universities in the world, such as Russia, Vietnam, Nepal, and India.
Dias raised the issue of empowerment of people with disabilities at Bina Siwi orphanage in Pajangan district, Bantul regency, Yogyakarta. The programme involves disabled children that join the Disability Era Goes on Development (D’Era-GON) project to make batik products.
“There are up to 30 disabled children here that are engaged in batik production, where they make the designs on their own,” he said on Tuesday (29/11) on the campus.
The programme has started since 2015, run together by three more UGM students. The four of them also give counseling and education to the disabled children.
“Currently, we are still producing the batiks. The end products will come in the form of clothing,” he said.
Irvandias also participated in the Youth Global Forum along with Dilla Novianti (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences) to represent Indonesia. In the forum they shared experiece and discussion to support sustainable development through social business development.
