Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., inaugurated as many as 36 students that become new members of Student Regiment UGM Yudha XL (batch 40). The event went on Sunday (29/1) at Balairung, UGM Main Office, with the Rector putting on purple berets on the student’s head.
The Rector hoped the Student Regiment UGM would be a lab for leadership that can produce candidates for leaders with good characters and morality.
“Out of this Student Regiment unit, hopefully, candidates for state leaders can be born who have good characters and morality,” she said.
Territorial Section Head of the Student Regiment, Slamet Riyadi, said the installing of berets on the head of the student, called as Gamayudha, was the final process for students to become members. For one week in advance, they underwent a series of training in Girimulyo, Kulon Progo regency. Next was basic training at Rindam IV Diponegoro Magelang, involving the Army as their trainer. “The basic training is the main prerequisite to become a member of Indonesian Student Regiment,” he said.
Slamet added the training for the UGM students focused more on character education, understanding of UGM value, duties and function of the Student Regiment,as well as time management.
Commander of Gamayudha XL batch, M. Garin Ardhana, said there was a new tradition being brought to the event with parents of new members attending the event.
The Gamayudha event last from 27-29 January 2017 at Samudrajaya Kaliurang, Yogyakarta.
