A team from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has won championships, Mathematics ITS Calculus Competition (MISSION), held by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Surabaya, in East Java on 19 February 2017.
The team consisting of Mu’amar Musa N (Mathematics) and Dhani Natanael (Electrical Engineering) won the first place awards in the event that was joined by 110 teams from five regions, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Balikpapan. All teams had competed in each region in the elimination stages. The best 15 teams of each region were selected to compete in the finals in Surabaya.
“The struggle to win the competition was not easy because we had to compete with strong teams who had won National Olympiad before and even did International Olympiads,” he said on Monday (27/2).
In the elimination stage, participants were given 40 multiple choices and 10 short exercise on calculus, real analysis, and complex analysis. In the finals they had to do two tests on real analysis and applied maths.
“There were five teams from UGM going through to the finals and, thank God, one of them winning the competition,” he said.
Mu’amar said their success was thanks to the regular practice they had done for 1 month before, assisted by association of mathematics students, maths and sciences competition community as well as UGM Directorate of Student Affairs.
“We’re proud to be able to present achievements and hopefully we can do more for UGM at various competitions,” he said.
