UGM Rector selection and election process has been entering Academic Community Aspiration Forum stage. The first forum which was held on Tuesday (21/3) at Senate Hall was intended to collect aspiration from UGM Professors.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Sasongko Parmono Hadi, DEA as one of UGM Rector Election Committee members 2017-2022 period said the aspiration forum for Professors is an essential process and it is one of four aspiration forums which will be conducted to hear the views, vision and mission of UGM Rector candidates.
“With due respect to all participants who attended this forum, the Rector candidates are astonishing. Therefore, the participants entrust this process to be done by them,” said Sasongko.
The attendance of UGM Professors, according to Sasongko, will give contribution in completing the candidates work programme. Therefore, both their participation and idea are expected to bring benefit for UGM.
According to Sasongko, UGM actually carries out tough mandates, particularly as a National Center for Science. UGM as the pioneer of world class university in Indonesia demands its Rector candidates to be able to bring UGM to a better position at international level.
“In my opinion, this can be used for the Rector candidates to work upon them, and I hope all of Rector candidates can carry UGM to the higher position,” he added.
There are eight UGM Rector candidates who deliver their visions and missions as well as work programme in front of UGM Professors, they are Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., DEA., Prof. Dr. Mudrajad Kuncoro, M.Soc.Sc., Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto, M.Si, dr. Rr. Titi Savitri Prihatiningsih, M.Med.Ed., Ph.D., Dr. Drs. Paripurna S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., and Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D.

At the same place, Prof. Nizam delivered his work programme on fulfilling his mandate to bring UGM to the world level.
The other candidates, Prof. Panut Mulyono agreed with the excellent synergy to keep UGM moving forward. Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati emphasized the formula, strategy, and innovation to solve various nation’s problems, such as social gap and humanitarian issues. On the other side, Prof. Ali Agus explained about affirmation on UGM identity to bring UGM academic authority back. Dr. Paripurna gave explanations about Professor’s role optimization in order to reach UGM welfare; while Titi Savitri, Ph.D. provided work programme towards an excellent and equitable UGM as well as becoming role model for achieving welfare.
In the forum, UGM Professors gave aspirations and idea to the Rector candidates. Prof. Dr. Ir. Zuprizal, DEA. said all candidates are astonishing and if their work programme are compiled, it will be an incredible work programme.
“There are candidates who have an excellent global perspective, but the others have an excellent technical one. Therefore, if they are compiled, it will become incredible,” said Zuprizal.
The same perspective was delivered by Prof. Bambang Rusdiarso, a Lecturer of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM. According to Rusdiarso, all of candidates work programme are excellent which are needed to be synergized and actualized together.
“As an internal stakeholder representative, I imagine a Rector as a manager and political official. UGM has great lecturers, great students, and it needs a great manager to make UGM greater. However, it also needs evaluation in which we can take an example of today’s leader trend who talks less, but more action,” said Prof. Bambang Rusdiarso.
Prof. Bambang Kironoto said almost 39 percent of UGM Lecturers have yet to be promoted, more than 10 years they have not been promoted. This issue is essential to be solved regardless whether the problem is personal or institutional.
“The institution is supposed to have role in solving this problem. If almost 40 percent of lecturers have yet to be promoted, it means there is something to be fixed whether it’s the monitoring system, facilities, or the others,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prof. Koentjoro said whoever the elected Rector is, he/she will have an unfinished task to resolve, which is performance allowance problem. This problem will demand to be resolved until then.
“Therefore, more attention is very much needed related to the performance allowance,” he said.
