Three Rektor candidates of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) were declared that they pass the selection at the Academic Senate level on Wednesday (5/4). They are Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., Prof. Dr. Ir. Ali Agus, DAA., and Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto. The three will undergo another selection process at the Board of Trustees level on Monday (17/4).
Chair of UGM Academic Senate, Prof. Dr. dr. Hardyanto Soebono Sp.KK(K)., said the three names of rector candidate would be submitted to the Board of Trustees to be elected,” “Ive signed the letter of confirmation yesterday,” said Hardyanto on Thursday (6/4).
Hardyanto explained the selection process at the Academic Senate had gone well. According to Hardyanto, members of the Academic Senate found it difficult to elect the new rector that is considered the best because all eight candidates had delivered their work programme well. “All the rector candidates knows everything, but the one with the highest score will pass the selection,” he said.
Unlike the previous rector selection that used the one man one vote mechanism, in the Academic Senate level, members of the Senate gave assessment on five criteria on the papers provided by the committee. The criteria are leadership ability, integrity, command of UGM values and development programme. Previously, the eight candidates presented their work programme, followed with a Q&A session with the panelists, consisting of former rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Sudjarwadi, M.Eng., Ph.D., Chair of Board of Professors, Prof. Dr. Ir. Putu Sudira, M.Sc., Board of Trustees Secretary, Prof. Indarto, and Prof. Dr.dr. Hardyanto Soebono Sp.KK(K). as Chair of Academic Senate.
The 114 members of Senate finally give their assessments. The scores given by the members were later accummulated to get three candidates with the highest scores, who are Prof. Panut Mulyono ( 47,521), Prof. Ali Agus (47,451) and Dr. Erwan Agus Purwanto (46,851). The three are, consecutively, Deans of Faculty of Engineering, Animal Sciences, and Social and Political Sciences.
Chairman of committee for rector selection and election, Prof. Indarto, DEA, said the three would undergo a selection at the Board of Trustees level, of which one person will be elected and appointed Rector designate. To make the process a success, his office has prepared logistics, such as ballots, presentation video, screens, and video streaming facililities.
It is planned that 19 members of the Board of Trustees, except the Rector-in-office, will cast their votes. Here, the Research, Technology, and Higher Learning Minister has 35 percent of votes. “Hopefully, on that day, UGM already has a new Rector,” he concluded.
