Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) sent six students to attend the 26th Harvard World Model United Nations (HWMUN) in Montreal, Canada, from March 13 until 17, 2017. The event was attended by around 2,500 students from various universities in the world.
The six students were Nisrina H Khotimah and Lentera Bintang R (International Relations students, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Erina Gudono and Noah Ikkyu (Faculty of Economics and Business), Louisa Hoathcote (Faculty of Law), as well as Muhammad Reza (Faculty of Agricultural Technology).
In the HWMUN Canada, all delegates performed a simulation like the United Nations General Assembly. They also performed negotiation and diplomacy in discussing various world issues as well as seeking solutions for various trending issues.
In this conference, each delegate represented a nation. UGM delegates had the opportunity to represent Nepal. They joined several committees such as WHO, African Union, and Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
“Each committee discussed certain themes and was required to seek resolution for realizing world peace,” said Lentera Bintang on Thursday (4/5) at Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM.
He admitted he acquired plenty of experience by attending this prestigious world conference. It enhances his negotiation and diplomatic skills.
“I gained knowledge and skills in performing diplomacy, lobbying, and negotiation with people who have different characters, political and cultural background,” he added.
Lentera Bintang hopes UGM delegates can give a better performance in the next HWMUN. Moreover, he hopes he can make an achievement to make UGM and Indonesia proud in the world.
