Faculty of Geography celebrates its 54th anniversary. Agenda to celebrate it include scientific activities, sports and arts events as well as pilgrimage.
The scientific events include International Conference on Environment Resources Management in Global Region (ICERM) to be held on 25 November 2017, Summer Course on Ecosystem-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (Eco-DRR) from 13-15 August 2017 and Summer Course on Smart City Village and Region from 7-15 August 2017.
Next, National Symposium of the 5th Sains Informasi Geografi, EGSA Fair and Expo from 21-22 October 2017, Geography Olympiad (OLGENAS) and Center for Natural Resources and Development (CNRD) 17th Annual Metting.
“Themed Professional Geography Experts, we hope all members of the Faculty would always work professionally so the graduates would be competent and able to respond to the challenge of the era,” said Dean of Faculty of Geography, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Muh. Aris Marfa’i, M.Sc., opening the anniversary events on Friday (26/5) on campus.
Dr. Bowo Susilo, S.Si., M.T, event chairman, said the theme of professional experts is expected to raise sustainable national development. The Faculty reinstates its commitment on generating professional manpower in geography. Now a graduate has also to pass competence tests. So, graduates of the Faculty has to compete not only with their fellow students from UGM, but also from other universities.
“There will be some overlaps, areas of geography, geodesy, forestry, geology, in addition to ASEAN Economic Community. So, indeed, the competition is pretty tight,” he said.
