House of Zakah, Infaq, and Shadaqa (RZIS) and Zakah Collector Unit (UPZ) organisations held an Iftar (fast breaking) gathering with children from orphanages in Yogyakarta. The event also invited UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng. and several management boards of RZIS-UPZ. The event which was held at UGM Main Office on Thursday (20/6) was filled with the symbolic submission of scholarship from BNI Syariah Bank towards UGM students. In addition, CSR fund was also handed by Mandiri Syariah Bank towards the representative of RZIS-UPZ.
In his welcoming speech, Prof. Panut said as the university of people, UGM should be caring for the people. He said UGM has to pay attention to its sorroundings. Therefore, according to Prof. Panut, the benefits of UGM are not only felt by the community who live far away from UGM but also those who live around UGM.
“The surrounding community has to also enjoy the benefits from the existence of UGM,” said UGM Rector.
Panut explained RZIS is a social institution established by UGM to contribute in social sector. This year, more than 500 million rupiahs has been allocated for the scholarships for undergraduate, diploma, elementary, junior high school, and senior high school students. Currently, there are 18 orphanages across Yogyakarta which obtain routine funding from RZIS UGM. Moreover, RZIS UGM has also been participating in health and environment sectors, including giving IBUC Health Card which is a health insurance in the form of free treatment at Rumah Sehat Apotek UGM (UGM Drugstore Health Centre).
