Faculty of Biology UGM held a workshop entitled The Quality Enhancement of Biology Master Graduates Using Outcome-Based Learning Strategy to Face Global Competition from July 13 – 14, 2017, at Auditorium of the Faculty.
The event led by Head of Biology Master Programme, Dr. Diah Rachmawati, S.Si., M.Si, was opened by Dean of Faculty of Biology UGM, Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc. He said their Master Programme has been running for 36 years and obtained “Excellent” and “Very Good” accreditations four times from BAN-PT, the national higher education accreditation agency.
Budi hopes the Biology Master Programme can keep enhancing its quality in the future,not only by increasing the number of international publications but also increasing patents, books publications, as well as international accreditation, accompanied by students and lecturers mobilization through students exchange and double degree with overseas universities which have top rankings in the world.
“In the near future, Faculty of Biology UGM will hold a cooperation with Australian National University,” said Budi.
The workshop presented several keynote speakers, including Prof. Dr. H. Nizar Ali, M.Ag., Director of Islamic Higher Education, Directorate General of Islamic Education in Ministry of Religious Affairs, and Prof. Aris Junaidi, DVM., Ph.D., Director of Quality Assurance, Directorate General of Education and Students in Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. They mainly presented the strategy of Outcome-Based Learning (OBL) implementation in front of the lecturers of Master Programme at Faculty of Biology UGM.
Aris said for the innovation and quantity level, Indonesia is still far behind other nations in ASEAN. This becomes a challenge for Indonesia to find an effective strategy to enhance the global competitiveness. Several efforts have been planned for graduating requirements; however, there are still several aspects which need to be improved in order to realize them.
On the same occasion, Master’s scholarship alumni, Sri Sumarmi, S.Pd., M.Si, and Yasir Siddiq, S.Pd., M.Sc. also gave evaluation and advice regarding the Master Programme implementation at the Faculty. They hope it can be an evaluation for the Biology Master Programme from the student’s perspective as one of the stakeholders.
At the end of the workshop, all lecturers at Biology Master Programme were required to arrange a curriculum development script that will be used as a reference to arrange and improve the curriculum of Biology Master Programme in the next period.
