The life of the nation is much affected by the rapid movements of global politics, economy, and ideology. These, however, could possibly threaten the ideology of Pancasila, too. In the perspective of Pancasila ideology, solution is required fundamentally to resolve those challenges. One of the solutions is by re-establishing Pancasila as part of geopolitics and geostrategy learning.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunjoto, Dip.HE, DEA said talking about Pancasila was now talking about the actualisation of Pancasila. Pancasila has so far only become a topic of discussion and philosophy discourse, but the practical levels are never implemented.

"We don’t even see it in our daily life. We’re talking fervently about Pancasila, but we’re not implementing it. So, this becomes the most essential thing to discuss in this congress, which is to bring Pancasila into practical stages,” he said in Fortakgama room at UGM on Wednesday (19/7) ahead of the IX Pancasila Congress themed Pancasila, Nation’s Soul.

Being chairman of the event, Sunjoto said the most real thing to do now is to prepare the Pancasila education curriculum for primary schools up to high schools in cooperation with the Centre for Pancasila Education and Studies in Malang, East Java (P4TK).

"To meet that goal, the curriculum for primary schools up to high schools is being prepared and will be finalised here in Jogja, in cooperation with P4TK Malang, Centre for Pancasila Education and Studies," he said.

Sunjoto raised his concerns that of over 4,000 universities in Indonesia, only 65 have Centres for Pancasila Studies. This is pitiable because in its 72 years of anniversary of Indonesia, not many have paid attention to Pancasila. He added it was most important to implement the curriculum and syllabus of Pancasila in the real life.

The IX Pancasila Congress will run from Saturday and Sunday (22-23 July 2017), preceded by Pancasila Course on 21 July 2017, followed by a singing performance of Pancasila on 23 July 2017, and arts performance on 22 July 2017.

President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo are schedulled to attend the singing performance. Speakers that will attend the congress include Chief of Police, Gen. Tito Karnavian, M.A., Ph.D; Dr. Yudi Latif (Chairman of Presidential Working Unit for Pancasila Ideology Education), Dr. Agus Maftuh Abegebriel, and Prof. Imam Suprayogo, etc.

Chair of steering committee,Prof. Dr. dr. Sutaryo, Sp.A(K), added this was the right momentum for the Congress, remembering recent incidents. President Soekarno during his life once wrote in 1958 that if state affairs are not ruled based on the state ideoplogy of Pancasila, the nation of Indonesia will disintegrate.

"Back in 1958, Bung Karno did say that. This proved that Pancasila is the only thing that can unite and secure our nation,” Prof. Sutaryo said.
