The existence of UGM Museum becomes an inspiration for the nation. It is expected that the Museum can continue to be the guardian of state civilisation. This is deemed as reasonable because museums are a nation’s source of civilisation. Those that abandon museums will have regrets.
This was said by Prof. Dr. Suratman, UGM Vice-Rector for Research and Community Service, during Soft Launching event of Information System and Management of Museum (SIMMUS) UGM in the Senate Hall on Wednesday (26/7).
“From the museum we can find leading figures that we respect. From there, we generate museum information systems for people’s learning,” he said.
According to Suratman, soft launching of SIMMUS UGM was part of strengthening of UGM values and identity to build a university that has high nationalism spirit, as well as an attempt to pay respect to the nation’s and UGM’s founding fathers so that their noble services can be documented from time to time.
“UGM Museum is a museum that is established to pay utmost respect to founding fathers, pioneers, and fighters that have dedicated their energy and thoughts to contribute to the state advancement,” he said.
Furthermore, Suratman said, the soft launching was aimed at educating all UGM academic community to love and respect the struggles and hard work of the UGM leading figures and transfer those values to the young generation. The SIMMUS is expected to give inspiration and innovation to UGM academic community to always give services and produce positive thoughts to the state advancement.
“With the six museums at UGM, Museum of Biology, Wood Museum of Wanagama, Paleoanthropology Museum, Sand dunes Museum, Maps Museum, and Museum of UGM Historical Establishment, we hope we can be the source of learning inspiration, and through this forum I would like to ask us all to pay more attention to the museum,” he said.
Also present in the Soft Launching were university and faculty leaders as well as senior figures of UGM, museum managers from around Yogyakarta, Barahmus DIY, Regional Cultural Agency, Regional Education, Youth and Sports Agency.
