Pill contraceptives are a choice for family planning. To increase the number of participants of this contraceptive, Midwifery students of UGM Vocational School have devised a demo tool which is a doll to help increase awareness among participants on the works of the pill. The dool is designed representing the anatomy of the uterus, “We make the uterus-like doll to know the works of contraceptives pills,” said Binta FN, member of research team, presenting their work to journalists on Friday (11/8).
According to Binta, the idea to make this has started from the reports mentioning that around 6 of 10 people using contraceptives do not understand the works of the pill. “Over 50 percent of participants do not understand, so they fail to consume the pill regularly,” she said.
The demo tool named as Mikopil (Miniatur Kontrasepsi Pil) is the result of Binta along with fellow students, Nabila Aulia, Ineke Wijayanti, and Puput Ayu W. in Student Creativity Programme for Entrepreneurship.
Mikopil that sells Rp50 thousand each attracts customers. “Interest came from midwifes, biology teachers, and midwifery students,” she added.
Ineke added Mikopil could help professional medics socialise family planning programme on the choice of contraceptives. During this time, participants found difficulties in putting the instruction from medics into practice. Replicas of the pills also come with Mikopil that tells the person when to consume the pill.
”The Mikopil doll will motivate women to consume the pill regularly,” she concluded.
